“Whether you think you can or can’t either way you are right.”
-Henry Ford

Henry Ford revolutionized the world by introducing the assembly line and the idea of breaking big tasks down into small, repeatable jobs. By doing so he was able to offer affordable transportation to the masses and earn himself a fortune in the process.

Henry Ford also said..

“Nothing is particularly hard if you divide it into small jobs.”

So what does this mean?

You should take two things from the previous quotes:

  • If you think you can do something, you can. If you think you can’t do something the chances are you won’t succeed in trying. It’s highly unlikely you’ll succeed if you don’t believe you can.
  • If you have a big task in front of you, break it down into the simplest of jobs, and work on each job individually.

This “chunking down” of a big task into smaller jobs is highly effective. It is the cornerstone of mass production assembly lines.

Did you know Henry Ford actually used to get parts shipped in boxes that could then be used for floorboards on the Model T? It’s efficient thinking like this that made the automobile affordable, and allowed him to introduce mass production.

Using these two techniques you can get alot more done, and quicker too!

We’ve all experienced it..one of those days where you have no motivation to do anything productive. Or maybe you have the motivation to get something done, but you end up being as useless as a third nipple and as unproductive as a child with severe ADD.

Anyhow, the good news is, many of these unproductive days can be avoided with a few preventative measures.

The key to having good, productive and energy filled day relies in part on your actions from the day before. What you eat, what you do, how much sleep and the quality of sleep you endure, will have a significant impact on how your day plays out tomorrow. Likewise, what you do when you first wake up will also influence the rest of your day.

Here’s 12 tips on how you can have a more productive day, more often.

The night before..

1. Avoid eating anything heavy 3-4 hours before bedtime. If you must eat something before bed, eat low-sugar fruits and vegetables, or easily digestible foods.

2. If you’re an adult, aim to get 7 hours of sleep each night, no more and no less. 6 hours is just as bad as 8 hours, 7 hours of sleep has been shown in studies to be the “magic” number. Teenagers on the other hand, need 8-10 hours of sleep.

3. Time your sleep as best you can with the rise and fall of the sun. Aim to go to sleep when it is dark, and arise only when it has become light. If you can’t keep the time you go to sleep and the time you wake up consistent, at least try to consistently wake up at the same time

During the day..

1. Don’t skip breakfast, but don’t eat a heavy breakfast either.

Each morning your body naturally goes through a detoxifying process, you can help it along by eating cleansing and detoxifying foods such as fresh fruit and vegetables.

A good example breakfast may include a few kiwis, an apple with some honey, and a handful of walnuts. There’s many other possiblities for a healthy breakfast, just use your imagination. A traditional breakfast of eggs, bacon and toast is one of the worst combos if you want to have a productive day.
2. Try a stimulating tea instead of coffee.

Coffee contains caffiene, and is usually loaded up with sugar before you get around to drinking it. Sure it will provide an instant boost in alertness and clarity, but before you know it you’ll lose the invigorating effect and sloowwly dr-i-i-ift into lethargy.

Instead of coffee, try a stimulating tea such as peppermint tea. In fact, I have a peppermint tea every morning, without any sweeteners or additivies, and I’ve learned to love it.

3. Review or write down your goals for the day.

This act alone will do a great deal in boosting your productivity. Simply write down what you want to accomplish for the day or review your goals if they’re already written down.Read my post on how to set goals and follow through with them.

4. Take frequent breaks.

You should take a break at least once an hour. It doesn’t have to be a long break, just long enough to get away from the desk and give your mind and eyes a break. Get up and move around or stretch for a few minutes.

5. Eat small, frequent meals.

Instead of eating 3 big meals each day, eat 5-6 small meals at more frequent intervals. This will keep your energy levels up, allow you to digest your food more thoroughly, and is also a much healthier way of eating.

6. Take a power nap.

Studies show that most people start feeling tired between 2-4 PM, and if you can get through this “low” your energy levels will start to pick up again until about 7-8 PM. Instead of simply working through this low, a much better solution is to take a quick power nap. A study by NASA found, for example, that a 26-minute nap increased pilots’ performance 34%.

A power nap is generally only 15-30 minutes, any shorter or any longer and you may not get the full benefit. In fact some companies in cities like New York are now charging upwards of $30 for 15-30 minute power naps during office work hours. These companies exist for the sole purpose of selling power naps, and have been doing quite well since there conception.

7. Maintain focus on your task at hand.

In any job, and especially working online, it’s easy to lose focus and go off on tangents that have nothing to do with your goal. Make a concious effort to maintain your focus, and finish the task you started working on.

 8. Reward yourself.

It works with dogs, it works with cats, and guess what, it works with humans too. For instance, you might say…”As soon as I finish this post I’m going to go for ice cream”. Your reward will provide motivation to get the task done, and will also reinforce good work habit after the task is completed.

9. Do not overwork yourself.

There is a fine line between working to get something done, and working too much, be careful not to cross it. I’m guilty of this one, and I must constantly remind myself that I’ll get more done if I stop what I’m doing and continue when I’m refreshed.

As an example, I’ve spent many late nights and long hours working out bugs in code. Sometimes I might spend 4 hours working on what should be a simple bug fix, only to give up and go to sleep. The next morning I take one glance at the code and instantly know the problem. That 4 hours could of been spent sleeping, instead of frustrating myself to the point of exhaustion.

Now..tips do you absolutely no good if you don’t put them in to practice. So the number one way to improve your productivity and have a more successful day is to actually use these tips and incorporate them into your life. Soon you’ll find yourself flying through your work, enjoying yourself while you’re working and having more time to do the other things you enjoy!

Self Confidence

Why So Serious? Smile More!.

Smiling is much more then just a facial expression. The simple act of smiling releases feel-good endorphins, improves circulation to the face, makes you feel good about yourself in general and can definitely increase your self confidence. Not only will it increase your self confidence over time, but you will also appear more confident to others while you’re smiling.

The smile is an essential part of human to human communication and many subtleties are hidden in a each and every smile. A smile can portray a variety of different moods, mindsets and suggestions or even be used for confirmation and approval.

To see the biggest improvement in your self confidence, smile while looking in the mirror and try to “mean” it. Think of a reason to smile and let it just flow out naturally. Observe your smile, respond to it and believe in it. Smiling is a vital key to relationships, self confidence and overall well-being so make a habit of doing it as often as possible!

Socialize and Experience

Parrots are one of the smartest creatures on the planet. Not only do some parrots have the potential mind of a 3 year old (without some complex reasoning) they can also communicate with us and do things such as distinguish colors and shapes or even count. Because parrots are so smart they need constant interaction with either other parrots or humans. If a parrot doesn’t get attention - guess what? They aren’t going to be happy, they get depressed, they often get ill and usually die at a much earlier age. Some parrots even go completely insane.

Humans are no different then parrots in this respect. Humans require social interaction with other humans in order to live a healthy life - both emotionally and physically. For some of us, self confidence hinders our social outings and human interaction. Maybe we’re scared of meeting people, or think we’re hideous, or maybe we’re just really shy.

So if you need self confidence in order to have social interaction how does it *actually* help your self confidence?

The trick is to ease into it and take everything in baby steps. If you’re scared of meeting new people or initiating a conversation first analyze why you’re afraid to do this. Is it because you’re unsure of yourself, or you think you’re ugly or maybe you just don’t know what to say. Once you figure out what the problem is, take steps to solve it. If you don’t know how to approach people for example - make a point of learning. Learn enough about it so you feel comfortable and move on to the next step. Eventually you will build up enough self confidence so that it comes to you naturally - and you’ll find yourself meeting people without even thinking about it.

The closer your “practice” sessions are to you’re actual experiences - the more benefit you’ll get from practicing. So if for instance you’re bad at interviews you might have a friend setup a fake interview with someone you don’t know and have it resemble a real interview.

Get in Shape

One of the best things you can do for your self confidence is to get in shape. You don’t have to be a super-athlete or ripped like the hulk - just physically fit and healthy. A healthy and fit person shows people that you take care of yourself. Not only that, you’ll feel good about yourself because you are taking action to make yourself a better person. Exercising in it’s own releases endorphins that make you feel good - and when you feel good you feel more confident.

Change Your Thought Patterns

Change “I can’ts” into “I don’t want to’s”. Say for example you want to go swimming by yourself but you don’t feel confident enough on your own. You think to yourself, “I can’t go swimming by myself, I’ll feel like an idiot and everyone will stare at me”. Changing this to an “I dont wan’t to..” becomes “I don’t want to go swimming by myself because I think people are staring at me and will think I’m a loner”. Then stop and think about what you’ve just said. Are people really going to think you’re a loner and stare at you? Probably not… People go swimming by themselves all the time, and you’re no different - you just THINK you are. Once you change your thought patterns you open up a whole new world of possibilities and eventually phrases like “I can’t” won’t even be in your vocabulary.

Challenge Yourself

Challenging yourself can be very rewarding. Overcoming something that is difficult for you can do wonders for your self-image and self confidence and will help build a base of confidence you can use long down the road. For instance - I’m an avid rock climber and I love it, but lot’s of times I find myself in very challenging situations and my mind screams at me to give up. Instead of giving up I look back at past experiences - challenges I’ve overcome - and use these past experiences to propel me through the present situation. As you gain more and more experience you will be able to conquer tougher challenges. Soon enough you’ll have confidence in even the toughest of situations.

I wrote this article a while back for one of my health newsletters and it was well recieved, so I thought I’d share it - enjoy!

High blood pressure, or hypertension, is a part of life for millions of Americans. High blood pressure medications are one of the most commonly prescribed drugs. But did you know that you can effectively lower your blood pressure without the use of drugs or medications?

According to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (as of 2004), blood pressure can be broken down into 4 segments.

Normal: Lower than 120 (systolic) over lower than 80 (diastolic) - lower than 120/80

Prehypertension: 120-139 (systolic) over 80-89 (diastolic) - 120-139/80-89

Stage 1 Hypertension: 140-159 (systolic) over 90-99 (diastolic) - 140-159/90-99

Stage 2 Hypertension: 160 or higher (systolic) over 100 or higher - higher than 160/100

Natural treatment aims to lower blood pressure to at least 140 over 90 for most individuals. However with prolonged natural treatment you may even be able to get your blood pressure back in the normal range.

The first step in lowering your blood pressure is to make sure your getting all the essential vitamins, nutrients and minerals required for a healthy cardiovascular system. The list below is a good starting point. I’ve only included the most important vitamins and nutrients, but these alone will help a great deal in lowering your blood pressure. Especially if you are deficcient in one or more of them (which if you have high blood pressure you probably are).

-Calcium - 1,500 - 3000 mg daily.

-Magnesium - 750 - 1000 mg daily.

-Potassium - As directed on label

(increase dosage of Potassium if taking cortisone or other high blood pressure meds)

-Coenzyme Q10 and Coenzyme A - As directed on label

-Essential Fatty Acids (EFA’s) (flax seed oil, or black currant seed oil are good sources)

-Garlic (2 capsules 3 times daily)

-L-Arginine - As directed on label

-Vitamin E - 100 IU daily for first month, then increase to 200 IU daily
(DO NOT take Vitamin E if taking blood thinners)

-Vitamin C with Bioflavinoids - 3000 - 6000 mg daily in divided doses.

-Lecithin granules or capsules - 1 tbs 3 times daily before meals or 1,200mg three times daily

-Vitamin B Complex - 100mg of each B vitamin twice daily with meals.

-Vitamin B6 - 50mg 3 times daily

Along with getting the correct vitamins and supplements, their are a variety of herbal and natural remedies that have for a long time shown to be effective in treating hypertension.

I highly recommend Hawthorn Berry Heart Syrup, as it has had some amazing results for a lot of people with high blood pressure/heart problems. You can order the syrup online. If you can’t find it, you can just get Hawthorn berry tea or powder, which is also effective in lowering blood pressure.

One of the cheapest and most effective high blood pressure therapies is cayenne. Start out taking 1 teaspoon a day, and work your way up to 3 teaspoons (or more) each and every day. You can also take wheat germ oil when you take your cayenne in the morning. The two in combination often provide great results.

If you have symptoms of high blood pressure such as headaches and dizziness, you can take mistletoe, which has proven effective for the relief of both headaches and dizziness associated with high blood pressure.

Your should also try to completely eliminate salt from your diet. That means avoid anything with sodium , salt, soda or the Na symbol on the label. Also avoid baking soda, MSG, Aspartame and foods high in preservatives (foods with long shelf life generally). You should also avoid animal fats, aged cheese, caffiene, alcohol and tobacco (and other drugs). Avoid licorice as well, which can cause a sudden increase in blood pressure.

If you are taking an MAO inhibitor (a class of high blood pressure medication), avoid anything that contains the chemical tyramine or tyrosine. MAO inhibitors in combination with either of these chemicals can lead to a stroke.

I also recommend that you drink only steam distilled water (1 oz. for each lb of body weight each day).

Reducing stress will also have an immediate impact on blood pressure. You can try meditation or breathing exercises, or simple audio cd’s that are designed to lower stress. There are many different stress reducing techniques, some more in depth than others. Getting sufficient amounts of sleep each night, in tune with the rise and setting of the sun, is also beneficial.

If you aren’t already, you should strive for at least 30 mins of light cardio activity (such as walking) each day.

A colon cleanse or fast can also be beneficial for people with high blood pressure, and I recommend doing one anyways for the overall health benefits.

In summary, here are the most important things you (or anyone else) should do to lower blood pressure.

1. Reduce stress

2. Get sufficient amounts of sleep

3. Supplement with the above mentioned nutrients and vitamins

4. Take cayenne/wheat germ oil each and every day

5. Take Hawthorn berry syrup, tea or powder

6. Get plenty of light exercise

7. Drink plenty of steam distilled water

8. Reduce, or even better, completely eliminate salt/sodium from your diet.

9. Avoid chemicals/preservatives/artificial sweeteners/stimulants

10. Perform a colon cleanse or fast 2-3 times a year

11. Avoid muccous forming foods (animal fats, cheese, dairy etc.)

12. Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables

13. Get plenty of good fiber (supplement if necessary).

Out of the above mentioned remedies/techniques the 4 with the most immediate and most beneficial results will be the daily cayenne, wheat germ and hawthorn berry as well as reducing stress. Those 4 in combination are often enough to lower a person’s blood pressure within acceptable limits.

Fears

We all have them, some are more fearful than others - some say and believe they fear nothing, but they do whether they like to admit it or not. Fears are a natural survival mechanism and without fears there would be chaos. Imagine not being afraid of anything - you’d be out of control guaranteed. You wouldn’t have any inhibitions and therefore everything would be “open season”. Some fears are not natural though and are learned sometime during your life..and others you may want to overcome for various reasons. So how do you do this? Progressive desensitization is the answer.

Maybe your scared of bugs or spiders, maybe your scared of small spaces or maybe your scared of public speeches. No matter your fear it can be conquered if you have the patience and are willing to face it. The key is to approach your fear as you would a long term goal - in baby steps. If you’re scared of spiders and your thrown into a pit of tarantulas, chances are you wont beat your fear you’ll only make it worse - or even die.

Progressive desensitization is exactly what it sounds like. You start out with the least amount of exposure to your fear as possible and with. Each step you take towards conquering your fear must be first be comfortable for you before you move on to the next step. Keeping with the spider example, you might first look at one from a safe distance and force yourself to just observe instead of jumping away in fear. You would do this - observing the spider - long enough so that your comfortable looking at them and no longer jump away. Next you might get closer, maybe even touch it - at least get “too close for comfort” and once again do this until your comfortable with the closer distance. After that maybe you’d hold a spider in your hand and let it crawl around. If your goal is to simply hold a spider without being repulsed by fear then guess what - you’ve done it.

Another example which also relates to my life is rock climbing. In rock climbing you are faced with the fear of falling - moreover the fear of not knowing what each fall will feel like as everyone is different. The mind and body has a strong natural habit to be afraid of falling and anxiety can easily overcome you if you’re not exposed to it. However climbing into a position where there’s potential for a long dangerous fall - say a 50 foot fall on an off-vertical slab isn’t the way to overcome your fear. First you might start out by falling short distances, a couple inches even if you’re really uncomfortable with it. You then move on to progressively longer (but still safe) falls until you’re comfortable with them. Not only will you become more comfortable with the potential of falling, you’ll also be able to more accurately judge what is and what isn’t a safe fall because you have previous experiences to relate too.

Any fear - no matter how big or small can be overcome. Some you may have no need to overcome - such as a fear of grizzly bears and that’s fine too. Just remember, plan your approach to overcome your fear and work yourself up to more and more intense situations. Soon enough you’ll be living your life without unnecessary fears and having more fun in the process. Good luck!

Hey there..how’s it going?

StepsWelcome to LovnLivn.com..my name is Ryan Bombard and I’ll be your tour guide so to speak.

First off, what is LovnLivn.com and what is it all about?

Well.. it’s intended to be a mix of thoughts and opinions on personal health, financial security, self improvement and other areas of life that can be challenging. With time I hope others will contribute their own advice and stories and help LovnLivn grow into more than just my personal opinions and your responses.

I don’t pretend to know everything about living happily, and some things i mention might need to be taken with a grain of salt. None the less, don’t hesitate to jump in with your own opinions and thoughts whenever you see fit. I’m here to learn as well as to share what I’ve learned. I’ll be sharing different methods of earning an income online, how to improve your mental and physical health and how to achieve things you may never thought would be possible.

I’ve spent countless hours researching many different aspects of life and I’d like to share it with you . I’ve dabbled, messed up, been surprised, surprised myself and spent many sleepless nights reading about this stuff so hopefully you don’t have too. To be honest, looking back I wasted a lot of time ..hell I still do. But, like I said - I’m here to learn just like you are.

If life is nothing more than learning then I’m happy with that. And if every day you can learn something new that improves your life and other’s lives around you - well than you’re doing a good job in my books.

So if a little more money, better health and a more enjoyable life sound good to you - why don’t you stick around and see if we both can’t learn a thing or two.

Why is it nature is so good at perfection?

The other day, a simple walk in the rain made me realize how simple life can be. There were no distractions, no outside noise, no interference with my thoughts - just me and the rain drops falling from the sky. Millions upon millions of tiny drops of water rocketing downward - cleaning the mess we left behind, refreshing our vital air and leaving the world crisp, clear and pristine in its absence.

My suggestion to you? Take time to enjoy the simple things in life. Life is too short to not appreciate it.

Ryan S. Bombard

So, I’m back at work now after a couple weeks off. To be honest I’m lacking some motivation but I just need to get into the swing of things. I don’t plan to work forever..not doing what I’m doing anyways. In fact this is the first “real” job I’ve worked at - the rest of my life I’ve earned my money working online from home.

When I took this job I was still earning money online but I wanted to experience the workplace and live a different life for a while. It’s been about a year now and it’s been good, but it hasn’t *all* been good. Working in minus 40 degree weather 350 feet in the air on a steel tower in the middle of the barren Alberta prairies is not my idea of fun.

I’ve decided to continue working here for the time being while I rebuild my internet empire. I do enjoy my job for the most part, so it’s not so bad. I’ve made a choice to continue my pursuits online and that’s the important part. I actually wouldn’t mind continuing my job part time if at all possible - it keeps me fit, entertained and on my toes.

Now to the point..

Do what you want to do, but realise when time is time enough. Make a plan, follow the plan, revise the plan and live it! Sure life will throw you curve balls, but without a goal or a direction in mind - everything’s a curve ball.

Live, Learn and Make Sure Your Lovn Livn!

P.S - I’ve decided I like walking in the rain… random I know.

The Good..

Buying and selling websites involves searching out existing websites for sale, purchasing them, improving them and reselling them for a quick profit.

For example, say you found a website selling pet supplies for $150. The website is a few months old, has a few backlinks, a trickle of visitors and is half-decent looking for the price - but nothing special. You spend the next 1-3 months working on the site - building links, adding content, improving the design, bring in more traffic - and maybe even make some money in the process. Let’s pretend after 2 months work the site starts to make a few sales a month for a total profit of $100 or so. Great! You decide to sell the site for 10x it’s monthly profit ($1000).

Doing the math, you paid $150 for the site, worked on it for 2 months and sold it for $1000 - achieving an ROI (Return on Investment) of just over 600% ..not a bad deal.

A Closer Look (The Bad)..

Achieving a 600% ROI in 2 months time sounds good on paper..but how many websites can you work on and complete each month? Not very many unless you scale your entire operation - and that takes time and money. If you’re time is at all limited you should be factoring the time spent on each website into your ROI as well. If you value your time at $20 an hour and you spent over 45 hours working on the website example in 2 months time, guess what - now your losing money!

The Ugly..

So you’ve gone ahead and sold your website for $1000 to someone on a forum. You keep an eye on the site for a while and the new owner seems to be doing a good job - he’s added automation to the site, saving himself time. He’s been doing a good job of monetizing and the site is doing well. You get distracted by other projects and the website - the 600% ROI website - slowly fades to a silent memory. Your pleased with the deal..

But wait! You wake up one morning and as you’re sipping your coffee you see the website you sold 6 months ago for $1000 being sold again. Only this time the buyer is asking $15,000 and there’s lots of interest - hell you’re even interested yourself. Lo and behold the new owner increased profits to $1500 a month for the last 5 months with little or no extra marketing. You brain is confused..little or no marketing, well that means..uhh..HE’S MAKING ALL THAT MONEY FROM MY WORK!

You see, all you had to do is hold on to the site for a while longer and watch it grow. Sure you might of had to spend some time here and there nurturing it, but the bulk of the work was already done - by you!

The Solution!

If you’re going to get into buying and selling websites you need to have a plan. I’ve personally sold sites in the past I wish I hadn’t and I’ve made some good sales as well. I’ve also kept sites I’ve bought that I had originally intended on reselling.

Instead of regretting my decision of selling each time - I mix it up.

The lure of quick cash when selling websites can be tempting, but don’t let it bite you in the ass. Evaluate each website you buy and maintain - is there long term growth potential here? Will this site be worth more in the future? Is this site stable enough to support itself for the next few years, or will the market dry up? How is this site earning money - are there multiple reliable income sources, or is there a single source of income?

If a website is still growing and doesn’t take up a lot of your time - it’s best to hang on to it. If a website is at a standstill but can fetch a decent dollar and you’re quite simply tired of updating it..well maybe it’s time to sell.

The main thing you should remember is that even if you bought a website with the intention to resell it, that doesn’t mean you have to stick to your original plan. Keep the site if its worth your while, and sell it only if you feel it’s the best return on your investment.

Flipping Internet Properties (Websites) For Quick Cash

So it’s been a full day since I purchased www.bonsaiforsale.com for $275. The domain was transferred early yesterday and I got to work right away.

The site originally had a turnkey script installed called Build A Niche Store - it grabs new products from Ebay and creates static pages on your website. Now..there’s nothing wrong with this script - it works pretty good actually, but it doesn’t give me the level of control I prefer to have. So I decided to not buy the script and go with a custom blog layout.

Here’s what I’ve done so far:

  • Ditched the Build A Niche Store script in favour of a custom a blog layout.
  • Tracked down well suited bonsai affiliate programs and signed up.
  • Did some research on the bonsai market to determine the best direction to take with the site.
  • Created a mod_rewrite to redirect the old pages on the site to the newly created pages (in order to keep existing traffic)
  • Started adding affiliate products to the website as “Featured Products”
  • Added Ebay Partner Network Links
  • Modified the Wordpress search page and setup a dynamic affiliate link in place of the not found page. This way if users search for something that is not listed on the site, it will recommend them to Ebay via a targeted search.
  • Started an Adwords campaign and started sending small amounts of traffic to the site to get a feel for visitors. I like to send Adwords traffic to new sites I’m working on so that I can tweak every aspect as I go. It cost’s a few dollars (I keep it at $7-10 a day) but it is well worth the visitor information you can gather if you have a keen eye.

All in all I havn’t got very far yet as much of my time was spent on the little details - transferring over the site and getting everything running smoothly on the new server. The wordpress template I am using is a semi-custom template (the same one as LovnLivn - slightly modified). My main goal for the day was to get the site to the point that it’s functional for incoming traffic and I achieved that after some minor frustrations.

Next comes the real work..

The Scripts:

  • Create custom script to query Ebay, return relevant products and turn them into a blog post - similar to the build a niche store script, however self-contained and compact, and more suited for what I need.
  • I will also create a script for a complete Bonsai Shop - the bonsai shop will be auto-updated via Ebay RSS feeds.
  • Create a script to scrape affiliate sites and post featured products on a daily or semi-daily basis. In order to avoid duplicate content, I’ll include this along with an article.

Once I have all these scripts complete, the site will auto update from 2 or 3 sources (Ebay/Affiliate Program(s)/Articles) and will require no work on my part unless I want to add extra content.

Next comes the promotion, first I’m going to….stop writing this post and save that for another day!
